Thatcher, Women’s Soccer Win 2OT Thriller in Texas; Split Matches 1-1

Published: April 13, 2021

SAN ANTONIO, Tex. Greenville College womens soccer moved to 2-1 on the season as the Panthers slid past Mary Hardin Baylor 3-2 and dropped their second contest 9-0 to nationally ranked Trinity.

Saturdays match was a tightly contested afternoon battle against a home favorite UMHB Cru. Though The Cru outshot Greenville 26-13, but freshman Haley Thatchers late game heroics gave GC the 3-2 decision in a 2OT.

Mondays tilt against NCAA ranked Trinity ended in a 9-0 loss for the Panthers. TU dominated from the start and GC would clear the bench and provide valuable experience for the underclassmen.

In game ones 3-2 win Thatcher led the way netting two unassisted goals in key moments of the match. This bright spot comes as a relief to the program after the Michigan product was forced to sit out last season with an ACL tear.

Haleys two goals and her play this early season are products of the work ethic and determination that she has, commented assistant coach John Fields. She worked hard in the summer and it shows.

In net for the Panthers was sophomore GK Heidi Koehl, whos game high 16 saves helped topple the UMHB Cru.

We are thrilled with the way that the women played this weekend, added head coach Brian McMahon. Offensively and defensively we are very strong, and this experience will only strengthen our solid squad.

Womens soccer will next take the field Wednesday, September 7 at 3:00 pm as they play host to Harris Stowe University.
