Published: April 13, 2021

GREENVILLE, Ill. Despite jumping out to a two-set lead in Saturdays Homecoming rematch against McKendree, the Panthers failed to close the door and allowed a devastating 3-2 comeback.

Sophomore Corinne Coon and Senior Tricia Gall headlined the offensive efforts for the women in the loss, each hanging a game high 13 kills on the visiting McKendree squad. Senior Jannell Nelly Crow posted 56 assits to aid in the effort.

Defensively, senior Sidney Cooper dug 21 balls, and sophomore Taylor Brunner notched 5 block assists.

The Bearcats overcome Greenville and pulled out the non-conference win by scores of 25-23, 27-25, 20-25, 18-25 and 13-15.

Fueled by a strong Homecoming crowd the women notched the first two competitive periods 25-23, 27-25.

After losing two hard-fought sets to Greenville to open the match, McKendree stormed back with a big spurt midway through the third set. The Bearcats led 9-8 before an 11-3 run built the margin to 20-12. McKendree was never threatened again in the contest to force a fourth set. The Panthers held a slim 13-12 lead before four straight points gave the Bearcats a lead they would not surrender.

Greenville fought its way to a 13-9 lead before the Bearcats ripped off the final six points to steal the match.

With the loss GC drops to 14-6 (8-2 SLIAC) and will look to down SLIAC opponent MacMurray on Tuesday.
