Volleyball Predicted Second in SLIAC Volleyball Pre-Season Poll

ST. LOUIS - Defending St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) regular season and tournament champion Webster University has been picked as the pre-season favorite in the 2010 SLIAC Volleyball Coaches' Pre-Season Poll. The Gorloks, who went undefeated at 16-0 last season and posted a 20-13 overall record, will look to capture their fourth consecutive regular season championship.

Leading the Gorloks squad this season will be seniors Sarah Bailey and Mary Jo Schweitzer, both of whom were named Honorable Mention All-SLIAC last season. Bailey is a defensive specialist and averaged 4.29 digs per set in 2009. She also recorded 21 service aces. Schweitzer, an outside hitter, had a team-high 38 service aces last year, while also averaging 1.51 kills and 2.90 digs per set.

Greenville College, who finished third in 2009 with a conference record of 12-4, was selected to finished second by the league coaches. The Panthers battled defending champ Webster to five sets in the 2009 SLIAC Tournament Championship before falling 15-25, 28-26, 17-25, 25-18, 13-15. Greenville returns 2009 SLIAC Player of the Year Jessica Dothager and 2009 SLIAC Newcomer of the Year Tricia Gall to the court this season. Both were First Team All-Conference last season and are joined by three-time All-SLIAC honoree Katelin Feyerabend.

Dothager, a middle blocker, averaged 2.98 kills per set and 1.00 blocks per set while also posting a .321 attack percentage. Gall, also a middle blocker, averaged 2.32 kills per set and 0.91 blocks per set while posting a .312 attack percentage. Feyerabend led the Panthers last season with 3.57 kills per set.
