Volleyball Splits Opening Day Matches at Augustana

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- The Greenville College volleyball team began their season with a split of two matches at the Augustana Classic. The Lady Panthers opened with a four-set victory over Coe and then dropped a five-set match to the host Augustana.

In the Coe match, Greenville won with scores of 30-32, 25-23, 25-21, 25-21. Joelle Scholten, Tricia Gall, and Corinne Coon led the attack for Greenville as Scholten posted 11 kills and Coon and Gall contributed 10 kills each.

Jamie Schollenbruch contributed 43 digs. Coon had one soloblock and five block assists while Marie Kendrick totaled five block assists.

Greenville's second match was a tightly contested five set match which Greenville dropped 26-28, 25-17, 21-25, 26-24, 15-13.

Coon again led Greenville with 10 kills. Schollenbruch was the team leader with 22 digs. Gall added three solo blocks and two block assists.

After the first night of the season, the Lady Panthers record was 1-1. They return to action Saturday at Augustana as they play Knox and Loras.
