Published: April 13, 2021

Wayman Contributes to Book on Christian EthicsBen Wayman 02, assistant professor of theology at Greenville University, has contributed to Samuel Wellss second edition of Improvisation: The Drama of Christian Ethics (Baker Publishing Group, 2018). Wayman co-authored the afterword together with Wesley Vander Lugt, lead pastor of Warehouse 252 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The publishers website describes Improvisation as an introductory textbook that establishes theatrical improvisation as a model for Christian ethics, helping Christians embody their faith in the practices of discipleship.

Reviewers cite the book for its striking originality, importance and lucidity.

Wayman calls Improvisation one of the most formative influences in his personal journey of discipleship and ministry. It uses categories oftheatrical improvisation to help Christians reconceive discipleship as an open adventure.

The concepts of Improvisation haveexpanded my imagination toreceive better the gifts God gives the church in abundance, says Wayman. Here SamWells reminds the church that given what God has done in creation, Israel, andChrist, and givenwhat God will do in the end, we have the freedom to improvise with courage and confidence thatGod is doing holy work all around us, all the time.
