Women’s Basketball Drops Pair in Arkansas

CONWAY, Ark. The Panthers dropped to 1-2 as they were outpaced by both Hendrix College and Rhodes College in the preseason Cliff Garrison Classic held in Conway, Arkansas.

In Fridays matchup against Hendrix College, GC failed to answer a staggering 13 three-pointers drilled home by the Lady Warriors as they would eventually fall 80-70 in first day action.

Junior forward Ieisha Adams led the Lady Panthers with 20 points in the losing effort. Fellow junior Katelyn Wise added 17 points, 10 rebounds and five assists to turn in an impressive performance as well.

Leading 22-20 with 8:28 remaining in the first period, the Warriors utilized a 15-2 run over the next 4:30 to expand the advantage to 37-22. The Warriors took a 37-29 halftime lead over the Lady Panthers and distanced themselves in second half play to deal Greenville the loss.

For the game, the Warriors shot 37.1 percent (23-of-62) from the field and 80.8 percent (21-of-26) from the free throw line. Greenville shot 39.7 (25-of-63) from the floor, but only made five three-pointers and was 15-of-27 from the charity stripe.

The second round of the CG Classic showcased Greenville against an evenly matched Rhodes College squad. GC overcame a significant deficit late, but proved to be too little to late in the 72-66 defeat.

The Panthers efforts were again spearheaded by Wise. The center/forward combo shot 9 for 11 from the floor, netting a team high 24 points. Wise also nabbed six boards and went 6 for 7 from the stripe. Junior guard Laura Hobbie also contributed big numbers in the loss, posting 14 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the 11 season.

TheLady Lynx took advantage of 22 offensive rebounds, and clinched the win despite shooting only 30.4% from the field.

With the weekend set back GC womens basketball falls to 1-2 and will look to get back to .500 as they travel to Lincoln, Ill. and battle Lincoln Christian University on Tuesday.
