Women’s Basketball Pushes Past Principia 59-51

Published: April 13, 2021

ELSAH, Ill. The women's basketball team went on the road Tuesday night to take on inter-conference foe Principia College. They erased an 11-point deficit and clinched the important 59-51 victorybehind a late second half rally.

Principia came out firing on all cylinders at home, getting big production from their 6-1 captain Lindsay Sydness. Greenville had no answer for Sydness in the first as she netted 11 straight points on her way to a 17-point first period performance. The junior also added eight of her game high eleven blocks in first half action.

Greenville headed into intermission down 11 and had only amassed 18 total team points.

The second half however proved to be a different story for the Greenville Lady Panthers, as a solid 41 point team performance helped push the Greenville ladies past Principia with 3:15 to go. Greenville would hold the lead and eventually clinch the SLIAC road win 59-51.

The Lady Panthers were led by senior guard Stacey Lawrence who dropped a team high 17 points to go along with seven rebounds.

Other key contributors for Greenville included Katelyn Wise who added 15 points in the win and guard Emmalee Fladland who snagged a season high 10 rebounds.

The Lady Panthers (11-8, 5-6 SLIAC), will try and keep their post-season hopes alive Saturday, Feb. 12, as they travel to MacMurray College to take on the Lady Highlanders.
