Women's Soccer Draws with Defiance

Published: April 13, 2021

The Greenville women tied the Defiance Yellow Jackets in their regular season opener Friday. The women played hard but the last second antics of Defiance lead to a tie.

The first half was a back-and-forth battle between the two teams. Both teams had many chances to score but could not capitalize and the half ended 0-0.

The second half proved to be just as tough as the first for both teams, as possession was fairly even between both teams. Greenville finally got on the scoreboard when junior Jen Williams put the ball in the back of the net off of an assist by Kelsey Panzau, a junior midfielder. After Williams' fantastic finish in the 75th minute, GC thought they had the match in the bag. Unfortunately, their hopes were crushed when the Yellow Jackets' Erica Islas scored with just 15 seconds remaining in the game.

With the game at a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation, the two teams went into overtime and neither side could score in two ten minute periods. The game remained 1-1, leaving both teams disappointed.

The Lady Panthers play again tomorrow when they take on Brockport College.
