Director of Young Christian Education- Aldersgate United Methodist Church

CHURCH PROFILE:
Aldersgate United Methodist Church is located in Southwest Indiana on the Ohio River. MINISTRY PURPOSE: To provide leadership for the discipleship of children and youth (ages 0-18) and their families by helping them continuously grow in relationship with Jesus Christ and others.

RESPONSIBIITIES AND DUTIES:
• Create and execute a long-term church aligned vision for Aldersgate United Methodist Church’s Children’s and Youth Ministries.
• Lead, organize, select curriculum andcarry out administrative duties for all children and youth programming included, but not limited to: Sunday School, Bible studies, Vacation Bible School, weekly children and youth group meetings, summer camp, special events, andchildren’s message.
• Recruit, train and support volunteers with diverse gifts and personalities for programs listed above.
• Promote an environment where young people feel connected to each other, valued, and celebrated without judgment.
• Seek to integrate youth ministry into all phases of church life to create a culture that is intentionally intergenerational, striving to unite with and complement other church ministries.
• Ensure safe and healthy classroom/small group environments.
• Maintain contact with students andparents, keeping them informed of ongoing activities. Keep parents updated on ministry strategies and plans in a way that encourages partnership and involvement.
• Explore and implement outreach events to connect students and families in the local community to our church community.
• Foster cross collaboration between ministries and area churches.
• Promote the unity, direction, and vision of Aldersgate United Methodist Church by participating in staff and leadership meetings.
• Develop and maintain a full year calendar that will accomplish our mission and vision.
• Carefully plan and manage the youth ministry budgets.
• Organize and provide accessible storage for all educational materials.
• Provide pastoral care to children, youth, and families as appropriate.
• Stay current with youth ministry practices by reading, attending youth leadership conferences, etc.
• Other duties as required.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
The Director reports to the Pastor as part of the staff team. The Director is evaluated on an annual basis by the Church Board.

WORK SCHEDULE AND COMPENSATION:
This position is full-time, 40 hours/week. Must be available for all worship services on Sundays. Salary and benefits are negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Gifted and called to ministry with young people.
• Passion for leadership and outreach.
• Previous ministry experience.
• Excellent organizational andcommunication skills.
• Possesses a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• Willing to become an engaged member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church community.
• Thrives within a team environment; with church staff, administrative team andvolunteers.
• Self-motivated and flexible to changes in procedures and/or direction.
• Possesses strong computer skills & familiarity with social media tools and their use for ministering to youth.
• Lead staff efforts to maintain the youth ministry social media presence i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
• Has basic experience working with AV, multimedia, tech and presentation software.
