Reducing Costs

So, you applied to GU and earned acceptance. Yay! Now, you’re really curious about our financial aid process, and we’re here and ready to help you through it. Let’s breakdown how GU makes a quality education affordable for YOU.

Advice for those seeking aid

  • First, you’re going to want to fill out your FAFSA using GU’s school code: 001684.
  • Financial aid at GU is incredibly individualized. Ask lots of questions and explore your options.
  • Don’t let the initial price scare you. The average traditional undergraduate financial aid package at GU is $24,000.

How does financial aid add up?

Now, we will walk you through an example of how financial aid can help you cut costs.

COST: $42,448: This is the overall cost of Greenville University, but this is most likely not your number. Let’s see how financial aid can make a difference.

$18,000: Let’s say you are awarded $18,000 based on your 3.0 GPA.
$2000: You apply for and are award the Panther Scholarship
$3,500: After filling out your FAFSA, you earn $3,500 in Pell Grants.
$1,000: Then, your church pledges to give you a yearly scholarship of $1,000.
$1,000: GU matches your church scholarship, so you automatically get another $1,000 (well, that was easy!).
$3,000: Now, you do a little research and find a couple of external scholarships from websites like Fastweb, Scholarships.com, and the College Board's Scholarship search.

That's $28,500 in aid!

COST: $13,948: Now you’re looking at something closer to your number, but we’re not done yet!
$5,000: You take advantage of your student loans, using $5,000 each year. If you do that for all four years, you’ll leave with $20,000 in student loans, much lower than the average $32,600 in student loan debt accrued by students who attend other private nonprofit schools.
$6,158: Finally, you look into the GU payment plan and pay the remainder of your balance throughout the school year.

Please keep in mind that financial aid is individualized, and this is an example of the possibilities. We’d love to help you figure out YOUR financial aid needs. Reach out to our admissions representatives.
