Foundations of Biblical Football

BIBLICAL FOOTBALL IS COMPETING

  • By the Power of God
  • According to the Word of God
  • For the Glory of God

FOUNDATION OF BIBLICAL FOOTBALL – Jesus Christ and the Word of God

Colossians 3:17 – Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the Name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Colossians 3:23-24 – Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

Ecclesiastes 9:10 – Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.

PRINCIPLES OF BIBLICAL FOOTBALL

  1. Love is the Cornerstone – Love for God and Love for Man
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: love your neighbor as yourself.” Matthew 22:36-39
  2. Power Manifests Itself when Individuals Die to Themselves for the Sake of the Team
“Unless a seed falls to the ground and dies, it cannot bear fruit.” John 12:24
  3. Humility is the Mark of Greatness
“I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:3
  4. Servant Leadership
“The Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve.” Matthew 20:28
  5. The Team is more Important than the Individual
“The Son of Man came to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45
  6. Emphasize People over Productivity
The Story of Mary and Martha serving Jesus. Luke 10:38-42
  7. Compete against Your Own Best Selves
“Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training... I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.”
    1 Corinthians 9:25, 27

IMPLEMENTATION OF BIBLICAL FOOTBALL

  1. Creating vision in players toward the expansion of the Kingdom of God (World Missions)
  2. Developing Discipleship /Evangelism paradigms for players within the football context
  3. Teaching players how to become great husbands, fathers, friends and workers
  4. Educating players in the “how to” of being Godly Men, both on and off the field
