DEERFIELD, Ill. Greenville College womens soccer saw their 2011 season draw to a close on Saturday as Trinity International University knocked off the Panthers 1-0 in the NCCAA North Central Region Championship.
The first half showcased a pure defensive struggle on both sides as neither team could find the net. The score was knotted at 0-0 heading into intermission, setting the stage for a thrilling second period.
In the opening moments of the second half GC failed to capitalize on several scoring chances. The Panthers amassed five corner kicks and nine shots on goal in period two, but the flurry of offensive production fell short of yielding a Black & Orange goal. Trinity would serve Greenville a debilitating blow in the 59th minute, with a shot that snuck past sophomore keeper Heidi Kohl. This lone goal proved to be the game winner and dealt GC the heartbreaking 1-0 defeat.
GC womens soccer finishes the 2011 season with an overall record of 14-9.
