College’s Creative Hub Expands With Opening Of Center For Visual Culture

Published: April 13, 2021

Creativity and collaboration at Greenville College have a new home on campus with the official opening of the Center for Visual Culture and Media Studies (CVCMS). Guests at the ribbon cutting ceremony March 28 toured the refurbished work and office spaces in the Kaufmann Building on College Avenue.

The CVCMS fosters collaboration between four departments: English, communication, digital media and art. Kaufmanns close proximity to the Light and Life Digital Media Center and Maves Art Center defines the west end of campus as a creative hub.

Edwin Estevez, GCs provost and chief operating officer, opened the ribbon cutting by praising the professors who moved this project forward by designing pathways for students to engage their creativity.

The centers director, Chair of the Department of Art Jacob Amundson, said the center reflects the very heart of Greenville College by integrating disciplines and connecting them to a deep faith tradition.

Weve always been practicing what the center is putting into place right now, he observed.

Amundson explained that student interests drove the idea of the center from its inception and that the CVCMS will remain a student-centered space

This space is designed for you and dedicated to you, he told the students in the crowd. We want this to be welcoming and inviting to you and adaptable to your needs.

Amundson added that the lab space, podcasting studio and game design studio, all in close proximity to faculty offices, give students ready access to knowledgeable people who care about their fields and care about you.

The Center for Visual Culture and Media Studies is the direct result of GCs strategic plan to extend its heritage and expand its reach.
