About Kathie Filby

What's your favorite thing about working at Greenville College?

I have worked in Spanish and Mexican schools in Ireland, my homeland. I've also worked as a missionary in Buenos Aires. What I love about my job here is that I can bring these two areas of passion into the classroom: teaching Spanish and sharing my faith. As well as learning about language, literature and culture, we worship God, pray and read scripture in Spanish. This, along with mission trips, is truly faith integration at its best!

What attracted you to the Spanish Department?

I've loved languages for as long as I can remember and have had the opportunity to travel to dozens of countries. As a European I've been surrounded by various nationalities, cultures and languages all my life. I've had the opportunity to study Spanish, Russian, French and Latin. However, I fell in love with the Spanish language and Spanish people while at high school. Not long after I graduated from university I had the opportunity to teach in a Spanish high school in Dublin. There I had the privilege of leading a number of Spanish students to Christ. My time in Argentina intensified that love for the language and for all ‘hispanohablantes'. In Greenville I love to meet with students in ‘tertulias' and ‘tomar un cafecito'.
