Graduates with Honors

Students graduating with honors will be noted in the Commencement program and will be given academic cords to wear with their caps and gowns.  Because final grades are not available at the time of Commencement, honors status at Commencement will reflect the cumulative GPA at the completion of the semester prior to graduation.

There is no charge for honors cords and no additional fee to the student. Honors designations include:

  • Cum Laude - 3.50 - 3.84 GPA
  • Magna Cum Laude - 3.85 or higher GPA
  • Summa Cum Laude - 3.95 or higher and successful completion of departmental honors thesis

To be eligible for honors a student must have completed 54 credits of coursework at Greenville University. Honorable Mention is awarded to students who have a 3.5 or higher GPA, but who have earned fewer than 54 credits from Greenville University.

Final academic honors are listed in the program for all eligible students regardless of their anticipated graduation dates.

Actual degree honors will be determined once all degree requirements have been satisfied and a final GPA has been calculated. The notation of honors recorded on the transcript will reflect the final honors determination, which may differ from honors designation noted in the printed Commencement program.

If you have questions about your honors status, please contact the Records Office at 618-664-7025 or by submitting a message.
