Men's Basketball Can't Clench Comeback Over Gorlocks, Drop Game 76-81

ST. LOUIS, Mo.--After an impressive second half comeback, GC's Jordan Smith hit a 3-pointer to bring the game into overtime. Unfortunately,the Panthers could not pull out the win and fell to Webster, 76-81.

The Panthers struggled in the first half, allowing Webster to go on a 12-0 run in the game's first minutes. The halftime score was 44-28, favoring the Gorlocks.

GC came out of the locker room ready to play andout-scored the Gorlocks, 40-24 in the half. The Panthers were able to tie up the game after Jordan Smith hit a 3-point jump shot, with 3 seconds left in regulation,to send the game into overtime.

Unfortunately, the Panthers could not come out with the win and dropped the game on overtime, scoring 8 points to Webster's 13. The final score: Webster-81, Greenville-76.

Greenville's Todd Albertson led the team in both scoring and rebounds, with 13 points and 9 rebounds in the game. Tim Daniel, Jordan Smith, and Alex Mumphard each added 11 points for GC. Smith was also strong defensively for the Panthers, recording 8 rebounds and 2 steals.

Webster's Ahmed Smith was the star for the home team, scoring 29 of the 81 Gorlock points, and grabbing 6 rebounds. Roman Robinson also had an impressive showing, with 18 points and 9 rebounds.

This tough loss brings GC's record to 8-12 (3-8 SLIAC). Greenville takes to the court again Wednesday, Feb. 6 as they travel toWestminster in hopes of improving their SLIAC record.
