Men's Basketball Outplayed in Second Half; Senior Night Loss to MacMurray

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The men's basketball team suffered defeat to MacMurray College by a score of 85-64. Greenville was led in scoring by Jordan Smith who had 12 points. Simon Martin and Alex Mumphard each chipped 10 points each.

Senior, Ben Giertz led the team in rebounds, recording 5 in the game. Fellow senior Simon Martin also contributed defensively, with 4 rebounds and 2 blocks.

MacMurray was led by Luke Bishop who scored 27 points on 9-14 shooting including 7-12 from 3 point range.

The Panthers and Highlanders entered the halftime intermission with MacMurray leading by two points. MacMurray went on a 8-0 run late in the second half and Greenville fell even more behind, losing the game 84-65.

The game was Senior Night for GC's 5 senior players, Ben Giertz, Kyle Martin, Jay Mercer, Simon Martin, and Jordan Smith. All five athletes were recognized at halftime for their great contributions to GC basketball over their collegiate career.

With the loss, Greenville falls to 9-15 (4-11 SLIAC). MacMurray improved to 13-11 (10-5 SLIAC). Greenville returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 19, when they travel to Fontbonne for the final game of the season. That contest is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.
