Women's track and field places fifth at Illinois College

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. -- The women's track and field team got a first place performance from Chelsea Gilles in the 200 meter dash as she led Greenville's participants at the Illinois College Snow Bird Open.

Gilles won by nearly half a second as her time of 26.29 seconds bettered the second place finisher's 26.73. Her mark gave Greenville 10 points as the Lady Panthers collected 38.5 points on the day to finish fifth of 15 teams.

Brooke Goodyear contributed in the one-mile race and 800 meter run. Her time of 5:32.98 allowed her to finish fourth in the mile, and her 2:30.93 was fifth in the 800.

Sierah Ruffner and Janisha Pealer rounded out Greenville's group of top five finishers.

Ruffner tied for fourth in the high jump with a mark of 1.6 meters, and Pealer was fourth in the long jump with a leap of 4.9 meters.

The Lady Panthers return to action on Friday, Jan. 29, at Principia.
