Teaching English as a Second Language Endorsement

Enhance your teaching skills and advance your career with Greenville University's Endorsement program.

GU’s English as a Second Language (ESL) endorsement program provides the coursework you need when it is most convenient for you.

The ESL provides online courses to prepare you to teach English to individuals who do not have English as their primary language. As part of the endorsement, you will complete 100 hours of face-to-face field experience needed to meet Illinois State Board of Education requirements for ESL approval/endorsement. The ESL endorsement is a complete endorsement, providing 18 credit hours completed toward your certification. If you are a licensed, practicing teacher in Illinois, you are ready to begin the process of getting an English as a Second Language Endorsement.

Teachers who complete endorsement coursework can apply their courses and credit toward an accredited graduate degree in ESL at Greenville University.

Greenville University’s School of Education is accredited through the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).

You can start this endorsement during our special summer start. Some courses are not offered in the summer semester for this endorsement.
