President’s Citation Award
CALLIE ADKINS
The President’s Citation Award is Greenville University’s most prestigious academic honor, awarded annually to a graduating senior who has demonstrated the highest academic achievement within the context of a Christian liberal arts education.
This year’s recipient is Callie Adkins. Callie is graduating summa cum laude, earning a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Bachelor of Social Work.
Professor Rich Beans, Associate Professor of Psychology, shared, “Callie was an excellent student who never simply ‘mailed it in.’ She consistently went above and beyond in her studies, striving not just for the acquisition of knowledge but for true understanding. In both theory and practice, she worked to integrate her Christian faith with the study of psychology.
Her vivacious personality and winsome qualities made her a welcome presence wherever she was on campus and beyond. It’s often said that people may forget what you say, but they will never forget how you made them feel—and Callie is the kind of person who makes others feel better about themselves.
All of this is motivated by her sincere faith in Jesus Christ and her desire to show His love to others through service. It has been my distinct pleasure and honor to have Callie as a student, and I look forward to seeing how God will continue to use her to reflect His love to the world.”
Professor Helo Oidjarv, Associate Professor of Social Work, shared high praise for Callie. “It’s hard to think of a student more deserving,” he said. Oidjarv has known Callie since her first semester in 2021, when she took his Principles of Sociology class. Since then, she has served as his teaching assistant, enrolled in multiple courses with him, and been his academic advisee. “Her work is consistently exceptional, and her emotional and spiritual maturity goes far beyond her years,” he added, noting her commitment to living out 1 Corinthians 10:31 and her resilience through personal challenges. “It’s been a privilege to be part of her journey.”
President’s Award for Character & Service
MAKENNA HINTZ
The President’s Award for Character and Service stands among Greenville University’s highest honors, recognizing a graduating senior whose life reflects unwavering Christian character and a deep commitment to serving others. Nominated by faculty and staff, recipients of this award consistently exemplify selflessness, generosity, integrity, and a noble spirit. Their lives bear witness to a faith lived authentically—impacting peers, faculty, and community alike.
This year, Greenville University proudly recognizes Makenna Hintz of Peoria, Illinois, as the 2025 recipient. Graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Chemistry, Makenna has distinguished herself through her academic excellence, servant leadership, and steadfast faith. She was nominated by Professor Scott Pattenaude, Associate Professor of Chemistry, and Isaac Barber, Assistant Vice President of Student Development.
“Makenna personifies everything this award represents,” said Professor Pattenaude. “She is remarkably generous with her time and talents, particularly through her two terms as class president. Her leadership is rooted in stewardship—faithful, humble, and grounded in her calling. Rather than seeking attention, she uplifts others, creating space for everyone’s voice and encouraging peers to recognize their own gifts. In the six classes I’ve had with her, Makenna’s integrity and thoughtfulness have been evident. She listens deeply, speaks with wisdom, and inspires her classmates simply by being present.”
Professor Pattenaude also praised her work in the EXPF 320 course, where she led an initiative supporting underserved grade school students, and noted her perseverance as a student-athlete in cross country and track. “Whether in the classroom, on the field, or leading worship at The Wednesday Experience,” he said, “Makenna consistently reflects her priorities—serving her community and worshiping God.”
Barber echoed these sentiments, noting, “Makenna leads with quiet strength. She never seeks the spotlight, yet her impact is profound. Her commitment to serving others far exceeds her official responsibilities. She is one of the hardest-working students I’ve had the privilege to work with—deeply faithful, steady in spirit, and wholly committed to God’s calling on her life. I pray her example becomes the standard we all strive to follow.”
As she steps into the next chapter, Makenna leaves a lasting legacy—one defined by character, humility, and a heart fully aligned with Christ’s call to serve.
