Core Course Requirements

PSYC300 Group Dynamics (3 Credits)

Group Dynamics is designed to provide students with the ability to evaluate, coordinate, and manage groups within an organizational setting. In order to assist students in the acquisition and practice of these skills, the course incorporates theory and practical application into the classroom setting. Students are encouraged to critically question and evaluate new concepts based on their professional experience. Prerequisite: PSYC 101

BUSN324 Human Resource Management (3 Credits)
LEAD310 Cultural Influence/Workplace (3 Credits)

Students consider the relationships between culture and the world of work. They discover how the environment, especially the workplace, has been shaped by the value and life experiences of various ethnic and racial groups. Meets the general education global foundations requirement.

LEAD311 Values/Ethics Decision Making (3 Credits)

Leadership decisions do not take place in a vacuum. Leaders must consider choices not only for the benefit of organizations and individuals they lead, but for sustainable practices and with long-term goals in mind. Determining a "right" decision calls for more than looking after the bottom line. This course looks at decision-making using seven frameworks: Divine Command, Natural Law, Individualistic, Kantian, Utilitarian, Continental and Virtue ethics. In particular, a Christian worldview is used in consideration of each, keeping in mind that the Kingdom of God presents us with a moral compass for orienting us towards better choices. Another purpose for this course is to practice utilizing written communication for a variety of purposes. Research on effective leaders indicate that they have the ability to communicate in a variety of ways. They must also continue to develop and grow. Reflective writing has been used by educators and counselors as an effective tool for grabbing your left brain while also exercising the creative, right side of the brains. Prepare to be stretched. Meets the general education upper division writing intensive requirement. Prerequisite: LEAD 308

LEAD313 Organizational Behavior (3 Credits)

Students learn how individuals and organizations function as complex systems and gain the fundamental skills and knowledge needed to understand and diagnose the various factors affecting organizational performance.

LEAD404 Capstone Project (3 Credits)

Organizational Leadership majors will demonstrate critical reasoning, reflection and analysis skills in addressing a real world leadership issue. Students will define a specific research goal, gather quantitative data, analyze it, and draw conclusions resulting in recommendations for further research or interventions.In addition, students will reflect on leadership within a sense of vocation. Prerequisite: LEAD 201, LEAD 202, and LEAD 317

LEAD201 Principles of Leadership (3 Credits)

Students will examine models of leadership, focusing on the importance of strategic thinking, managing change, and assessment of leadership behaviors and managerial style so as to develop a personal growth plan for improving leadership performance. Prerequisite: PSYC 101

LEAD320 Conflict and Negotiation (3 Credits)

Conflict is an inevitable part of social interaction. It is also the path to positive change. To navigate organizational settings, leaders must be confident in their ability to engage with those who disagree. This course teaches self-management concepts and skills necessary to engage productively with conflict in multiple contexts. furthermore, the course addresses basic negotiation concepts when one is the conflict manager among employees or teams. Prerequisites: LEAD 201 and PSYC 300

BUSN399 Open Titled (3 Credits)
BUSN410 Organizational Theory and Practice (3 Credits)

This course will provide an overview of how organizations work. Theory, research, and application will be utilized to provide students with a deeper understanding of organizational structure, culture, communication, and strategic planning processes. Students will engage in exercises and activities that will assist with the development of a mature, Christian perspective and analysis of their organization. Prerequisite: ACCT 101, BUSN 101, BUSN 222, ECON 102, ENTR 130 and MRKT 201. Cross-Listed as BUSN 510.
