About
I value the opportunities that a small university provides to contribute to a student-centered learning community. I also enjoy that I get the opportunity to teach a broad range of courses, allowing me to continually learn about different areas of the world. I teach survey courses in world history and upper-level history courses on Europe, Africa, the Middle East, East Asia, and Latin America. I also teach historiography and historical methods.
My research centers on the role of science and cultural heritage in modern imperial and international histories. I am especially interested in how archaeology has linked Britain, Africa, and the Middle East since the First World War.
Education
I hold a PhD in modern European history from the University of Connecticut, an MA in history from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, and a BA in history (with a minor in classical studies) from the University of Missouri--St. Louis. Before coming to Greenville, I held faculty appointments at Concordia College in New York and at Sterling College in Kansas, where I participated as a faculty fellow in the Faith and Learning program. As a graduate student, I taught part-time at the University of Connecticut and the University of New Haven. I also taught Social Studies for grades 6 - 12 at a private school in Minnesota.
