President's Report: With These Hands
“When God plants the seeds of an idea in our imaginations and whispers an invitation for us to join Him, He calls us into partnership that often requires our hands and feet.”
With this observation, President Ivan Filby introduces the latest issue of The RECORD, “With These Hands,” a snapshot of alumni in communities from tiny Wray, Colorado in the west to suburban Boston in the east, who answered “yes” to that divine invitation. It also shares brief accounts of Greenville College students who say “yes” to meet needs in Greenville and its neighboring communities, with grace, strength, intellect and creativity.
The stories remind us that serving in Christ’s name translates into all sorts of activity from moving gravel and restoring nature trails to installing drywall, preparing meals, shaping athletic skills in kids and engaging marginal folks like prisoners and the homeless in conversations that build relationships. It also can mean applying expertise in specific areas like tax preparation, funding building projects and scholarships, and organizing shifts upon shifts of community volunteers.
As a report of annual giving for 2013, the issue presents the names of the College’s financial champions. These friends and alumni have also responded “yes” to God’s call for generosity. Together, their critical partnership powers and blesses Greenville College month after month.
