Christiane Zeller '17 Honored for Teaching ExcellenceChristiane Zeller 17 was among 109 St. Louis-area educators to receive an Emerson Excellence in Teaching award for 2018. Now in its 29th year, the award pays tribute to area educators for their achievements and dedication to the field of education. Honorees include instructors across all levels, from kindergarten teachers to college professors.

Christiane (shown with David Rabe, vice president of corporate social responsibility at Emerson) and her fellow awardees each received an engraved Tiffany & Co. crystal apple representing the vital role they play in shaping students lives. The awards ceremony and reception took place November 11.

Recognition from schools and districts for teaching excellence demonstrated by G.U. graduates, including recent graduates, is not uncommon. Teacher of the year honorees in 2018 included alumni Alyssa (Gosselin 14) Gandy, Kristi Erickson 07, Scott Humpherys 09 and Kate Leneerts 13.

Christiane received her master of arts in reading at G.U., one of several offerings in an "exceptional range of graduate programs" according to Lisa Amundson, dean of the School of Education. "The MAE-reading program has provided many practicing teachers like Christiane an opportunity to continue advancing their practice and develop their craft."

And excel at their craft, the folks at Emerson might add.

St. Louis-based Emerson, a diversified global manufacturer and technology leader, sponsors the Excellence in Teaching Awards program. In 2018, Emerson and its charitable trust fund provided $8 million in support to schools, education programs and scholarships nationwide.
