Faculty and Staff Attend “The Voices Conference”

Published: April 13, 2021

Earlier this month, Greenville Universitys Office of Diversity and Inclusion took a small group of faculty and staff to The Voices Conference in Philadelphia, presented by The Voices Project. According to its web site, The Voices Conference is a two-day event providing leadership development for leaders of color.

Attendees learned from speakers including Rev. Dr. Elizabeth Conde-Frazier, Rev. Dr. Mark Tyler, Mark Charles, Kathy Khang and Pastor Mike McBride, among others. The conference aimed to energize and refresh leaders of color, and open up dialogue about opportunities and challenges in predominantly white workplaces.

The Voices Conference brought together a richly diverse community of leaders, for the purpose of encouraging and empowering faithful witness to the transformative work of the gospel, said Pedro Valentin, dean of diversity and inclusion at Greenville University.

Ben Wayman, Andrews Chair in Christian Unity at the University, agreed. The Voices Conference was a compelling witness to cross and resurrection, which stand at the center of the Christian faith. The diverse voices at this conference gave witness to the courageous and hopeful discipleship required to live in a violent world that is being restored by Gods holy justice.

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion supports programs and services that create a campus climate celebrating multiculturalism. They sponsor or co-sponsor an average of 20 educational and social events for students and faculty each year to bring the campus together and promote the flourishing of all students.
