GC Baseball Gets Two Wins at Millikin

DECATUR, Ill.-- The Panther Baseball team traveled to Decatur, Ill. to take on Millikin and brought home two big wins with final scores of 8-6 and 9-7.

Greenville came out swinging early in the first game, getting 3 runs in the first inning and another 2 in the second. Millikin earned two runs in the second and two in the third to bring the game to 5-4 GC going into the fourth inning. GC scored two runs and Millikin answered with one in the fifth inning. This back-and-forth action ended when GC scored two unanswered runs in the top of the sixth, which brought the game to its final score of 8-6, Greenville.

Tim Osborne, Dalton McFarland, and Mitchell Cernek each hit a double in the game and Osborne, McFarland, Adam Wallace, Hunter Bryan, and Dylan Goldsmith each recorded RBI for Greenville.

Tyler Pilcher earned the win on the mound after facing 24 batters and giving up 4 hits and 6 runs. Nick Bifano pitched one inning and did not allow any hits. Scotty Voyles continued his closing streak, earning his 7th save. Voyles faced 5 batters and allowed 2 hits.

In the second game of the night, Greenville started out strong once again, this time gaining a 4-0 lead after the top of the first inning. The Panthers earned another 2 runs in the second inning to bring the score to 6-0. Unfortunately for GC, Millikin refused to go down that easy and came back with 6 runs of their own in the bottom of the third to tie the game. GC added one in the fifth and two in the sixth and, despite Millikin's final run in the bottom of the sixth, the Panthers earned the 8-6 win.

GC has many different offensive contributors in the game. Osborne and Kenny Trager hit doubles for GC. Osborne, Trager, Bryan, Cole Lawson, and Dathan Berning each earned RBI for the Panthers.

Nick Bifano recorded the win, pitching to 11 batters and allowing 4 hits and a run. Cod Hintershire pitched 2.1 innings and gave up 5 hits and 6 runs. CJ Opp and Jason Collingwood also saw time on the mound. Voyles pitched 1.2 innings and allowed just one hit. Voyles again recorded the save, this one being number 8.

These wins bring GC's record to 16-19 (11-11 SLIAC). They will play again on Thursday, May 2 against MacMurray.
