GC Alumnus Ellis Named Top Rural Physician Nationwide

Published: April 13, 2021

GC Alumnus Ellis Named Top Rural Physician NationwideThe National Rural Health Association (NRHA) has named Dr. Wendel Ellis 86 Rural Health Practitioner of the Year for 2015. Ellis was recognized April 16 during the NRHAs 38th Annual Rural Health Conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Announcing the honor in a press release, the NRHA hailed Ellis for his model community involvement and professionalism blended with skill, patient concern, an easy-going personality and wry sense of humor.

Ellis has served communities in western Kansas for more than 20 years. Today, his varied roles include county medical director, nursing home medical director, EMS medical director for two counties and deputy district coroner. He also provides free school physicals, and mentors and teaches students of all ages.

Word of Elliss achievement arrived at Greenville College in the wake of news that all of the GC students who took the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) this semester scored in the 90th percentile or higher. The achievement adds to the Colleges strong track record preparing students for medical school. Approximately 90 percent of its pre-med graduates gain acceptance into medical school on first application.

This is the second GC alumnus to gain wide recognition for service to rural communities in recent years. In 2012, the Illinois Rural Healthcare Association (IRHA) presented Dr. Phil Siefken of Greenville, also a member of the GC Class of 1986, its Rural Physician of Excellence Award.
