Greenville University Hosts Nationally Acclaimed Exhibit

Last fall, wood sculptor James Mellick 69 accepted the $200,000 Peoples Choice Award at ArtPrize 2016 for his exquisite exhibit, Wounded Warrior Dogs. Visitors to Maves Art Center on Greenville Universitys campus can now view the exhibit through November 21.

Described as "allegories of redemption," the life-size figures of service dogs tell the stories of wounded soldiers and the cost of war. Mellick has observed that the exhibit appeals particularly to woodworkers, dog lovers and families of veterans.

After talking with the artist, it becomes evident that a fourth group of viewers may also hold special appreciation for the dogs as well: persons intrigued by the idea of following God's call.

When Mellick looks back on the journey Wounded Warrior Dogs has taken, he sees an unfolding work fueled by inspired revelation from turn to surprising turn.

There were so many doors opened and great timing and problems solved at the last minute that I can only see it as Providential guidance.

Wounded Warrior Dogs is open to the public through November 21:

Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
Tuesday, Thursday: 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
Saturday: noon-4 p.m.
