GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The Greenville College baseball team is going to its first NCAA national tournament. The Panthers defeated Westminster 3-0 in their second game of the day to defeat a Blue Jay squad who forced a second game after winning two games.

SLIAC tournament MVP Nick Bifano picked up his ninth save with two scoreless innings of relief. Fellow all-tournament honoree Jason Collingwood went 2.2 scoreless innings to pick up the win.

Josh Wheeler and Travis Ralls also gained all-tournament team honors.

Greenville took the lead in game two in the bottom of the fourth inning when Ralls got an RBI single. Ralls later doubled home a run.

Tyler Whitworth added an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh to give the Panthers their third run.

Starter Dillon Reel went 4.1 innings, limiting Westminster to four hits and three walks while striking out three.

Greenville needed an extra chance to win the tournament as they lost game one 11-0.

Westminster starter Jake Rule threw a nine inning complete game shutout.

Tyler Pilcher started the game for Greenville and gave up one run in the third, four in the fourth, and two in the fifth to depart with a 7-0 deficit.

Phillip Reedy relieved with four innings in which he gave up four runs, one earned.

This is Greenville's first NCAA tournament appearance by a team since the men's soccer team qualified in 2011.

The Panthers (22-19) will receive their NCAA tournament assignment at 11 p.m. on Sunday night.
