President and First Lady Filby Minister at Wabash Church Conference

Published: April 13, 2021

Greenville Universitys President Ivan and First Lady Kathie Filby were featured speakers at a recent church conference and retreat sponsored by the Wabash Conference of the Free Methodist Church.

The gathering took place April 8 and 9 in Nashville, Indiana. The Filbys ministered to about 50 pastoral couples.

It was a delight to have Ivan and Kathie minister to our pastors and spouses this past week, said Conference Superintendent John Lane. In preparation for this event, we all felt the hand of the Lord guiding us as He worked behind the scenes to accomplish what He had planned.

Lane reported a refreshing openness on the part of participants to hear from the Lord. People went away encouraged and with the conviction that the Lord surrounds us, even as we surround one another.

Marcos Gilmore, an ordained elder of the Wabash Conference and associate vice president of community life and student success at Greenville University, expressed gratitude for the Filbys ministry among clergy leaders. He cited the couples ability to listen, care, pray for and provide insight from scripture to foster an environment of hope and healing.

Kathie is an ordained minister in the Free Methodist Church and appointed to the Gateway Conference as conference evangelist. While serving as Greenville Universitys first lady, she has exercised gifts in mentoring young women. Prior to coming to the U.S., she served as a church evangelist and womens discipleship leader in Dublin, Ireland; and also served as a missionary in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She is a frequent guest speaker at churches throughout the Gateway conference and beyond.

Among his academic credentials, Ivan holds a master of arts in evangelism studies from Cliff College UK. He has taught and ministered on the power of the Holy Spirit in Asia, Africa, Europe, North America and South America. Closer to home in Greenville, a colleague of Ivans described him as presenting an intriguing combination of lighthearted wittiness with a conviction that his work in the academy is a ministry to which God has called him.
