Spanish Edition of Wayman's Ordaining Women Just Released

Published: April 13, 2021

Spanish Edition of Wayman's Ordaining Women Just ReleasedLight and Life Publishing has just released La Ordenacin De La Mujer, the Spanish edition of Ordaining Women: New Edition with an Introduction and Notes (Wipf & Stock, 2015) by Ben Wayman 02.

Wayman is assistant professor of theology at Greenville University. He also serves as the Universitys Andrews Endowed Chair for Christian Unity.

Ordaining Women by B.T. Roberts, first published in 1891, likened the exclusion of women from ordination to racism. Roberts contended that both positions exhibited biases that held the Christian imagination captive and underestimated the freedom empowered by Christs resurrection.

Ordaining Women is a book for the full church, Wayman said, upon release of his subsequent edition in 2015. Men need it as much as women.

Empowering Church Leaders

The Spanish edition just released includes a foreword by Delia Nesch-Olver, area director-Latin America Free Methodist World Missions.

Most of the largest Free Methodist Churches in Latin America are pastored by women, she has observed. A document like this will empower them and invite others to become part of our movement.

Nesch-Olver adds that the excellent translation accomplished in this latest volume reflects pan-SpanishSpanish that is understandable throughout the Spanish-speaking world, not a small feat.

A Work That's Long Overdue

La ordenacin De La Mujer also includes endorsements from Jo Anne Lyon, ambassador/general superintendent emerita of The Wesleyan Church; Justo Gonzlez, historian and theologian; and Howard Snyder, visiting director of the Manchester Wesley Research Centre in England.
