Job Description
Dear Greenville University Faculty,
As the Directors of Swift Nature Camp (www.SNC.Camp), we’ve spent 30 years helping young adults grow into confident, caring, and capable professionals. Over the decades, we’ve seen countless camp counselors go on to become outstanding teachers and social workers. Our son will be graduating soon with his teaching degree. You may have also noticed that we have a reduction in the grit of today’s youth — students often face challenges that limit hands-on experiences and resilience-building. One of the best ways to help future teachers to grow is to get them back in nature, with limited phone use, where they can form meaningful interpersonal relationships.
Being a camp counselor helps students “adult” in real-world ways while giving future educators and social workers firsthand experience in understanding and responding to the needs of others. Living and working with campers every day allows students to develop practical skills in leadership, child development, teamwork, problem-solving, and communication — all highly transferable to any professional setting. You may have even gone to camp while you were at university and realized not only the personal growth, but the Fun camp offers.
If you know a student who wants to make a meaningful difference, gain hands-on experience, and grow as a positive force in the world, please share our information. Enclosed is a flyer you can hand out. We can even custom-build internships tailored to your students’ majors and career goals.
A summer at Swift Nature Camp offers students more than experience:
- Teamwork: Counselors collaborate with staff and campers, building strong relationships in a fun, supportive community.
- Responsibility: Entrusted with children’s well-being 24/7, counselors develop accountability, decision-making, and leadership skills in real-world scenarios.
- Problem-Solving: Every day presents opportunities to think creatively, adapt, and find solutions — skills invaluable in teaching and life.
- Communication Skills: Without the distractions of technology, counselors strengthen face-to-face communication, conflict resolution, and group facilitation.
- Leadership: Counselors serve as role models, inspiring children while developing confidence, presence, and influence.
Beyond these professional skills, students spend their summer outdoors on a beautiful lake, form lifelong friendships, and earn a competitive wage — all while making a meaningful impact on children’s lives.
We’ve enclosed a flyer for your convenience. Please share it with students who would thrive at camp. We guarantee they will return with new skills, memories, and an appreciation for working with children — experiences that will shape their future careers.
Thank you for helping us connect with the next generation of leaders, educators, and social workers.
