Work Study Jobs

By being employed on campus through the Federal Work-Study program, students can earn up to $1,500 per year.  Federal Work-Study is need based and requires the student to file a FAFSA each year.

It is important for students and their families to realize that a Federal Work-Study (FWS) award, if included in your financial aid award letter, is different than other award items:

  • Unlike grants, scholarships and loans, FWS is NOT a guaranteed amount. The award is offered an an opportunity to work on campus. The student is responsible for obtaining employment and earnings are based on the actual time worked.
  • FWS earnings are not applied directly to the student account.  Wages are directly deposited into the student's personal checking or savings account twice per month.
  • Most students use FWS earnings to pay for personal expenses throughout the year and to gain valuable working experience. FWS should not be used when determining a monthly payment plan amount.
  • Remember, even when a student obtains a work position, a student may not be able to earn the full amount of FWS shown on the award letter due to class schedules, athletic commitments, and other time constraints.
  • When planning on how to budget with FWS, the actual award amount may be more than you are able to earn throughout the semester based on your class load and work schedule.
