Called to give the GU experience to others
Dana Smith came to GU as a non-traditional student. She wasn't sure why God landed her here - a little older than most of the women on her floor, but she figured she was here for a reason. Soon Dana's magnetic personality and her authentic care for people gave way to leadership positions on campus. She became a resident assistant, motivated to communicate, connect, and build into other women. Her own experience with female mentors had created the desire to mentor young women and help the find the best version of themselves. Dana became Vice President of the Mosaic Student Association and worked to educate, integrate, and unite student races on campus.
Dana graduated from GU and had staff and faculty willing to offer letters of reference for her character and her work while here at GU. As a business student, her work was exemplary. As a follower of Christ, she was compelling. As a leader, no one wanted her to leave.
Dana began a demanding full-time job in banking while going to grad school to pursue her MBA full-time as well. At the same time, leadership roles in her church and a ministry created on Facebook she dubbed "Dana's Desk" emerged into a significant ministry in her life. While she was able to help people at the bank, she found a call to ministry in her life unmet. When Ross Baker placed a call on a whim to her about a Residence Director position at GU, Dana sensed the Lord tugging her back to Greenville.
Today Dana is the Resident Director over two residence halls. She is a champion builder of young men and women who serve under her and a gift to Greenville University.
