"My experience here propelled me to a life I never thought I’d have. This university and this city are near and dear to my heart, because I did a lot of growing here."

Nicholas Morrow attended Greenville University – then Greenville College – from 2013-16 and played football under Panther head coach Robbie Schomaker for four seasons. The son of Lloyd and Erika Morrow, Nicholas has roots in St. Louis and lived in Huntsville, Ala., before coming to Greenville as an offensive line recruit from Huntsville High School in 2013.

His talent on defense became evident, and he soon transitioned into a role in the defensive secondary as a safety.

After his 2016 NCAA Division III All-American season drew numerous appearances from professional scouts, he signed with the NFL’s Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 2017 and spent the next five seasons as a linebacker with the organization as the team hired a new head coach and eventually relocated to Las Vegas.

He started five games for the Raiders in each of his first two seasons, eight in 2019, and 11 in 2020 before missing the 2021 campaign on injured reserve. In 2022, he signed a free-agent contract with the Chicago Bears and started all 17 games for the Bears in the 2022-23 season. He ended the season as the Bears’ leading tackler with 116 combined stops.

Nicholas, a multiple-time UMAC All-Academic honoree, studied biology at Greenville.

According to Greenville University head football coach Robbie Schomaker,

“This young man was blessed with great natural talent, but he also dedicated himself to do the work to achieve his dream of playing in the NFL. When the pro scouts started coming around, I told them that Nick worked harder than anyone on the team, that he was faster than anyone on the team, that he was stronger than our defensive linemen, and that he watched more film than most of my staff."

“The way he fought for his dream is incredible. And that’s why I’m so proud of him.”
