Equine Studies Major at Greenville University
The Equine Studies Major focuses on horsemanship and prepares students to care for horses and horse equipment and manage the training of both horses and riders. Students will learn basic training, health, and first aid as well as gain experience in stable management.
Students will gain valuable experiences in the areas of equine welfare, health and care, facility management, training, riding instruction, equine business, and Equine Assisted Activities (EAS). EAS is a unifying term that captures services of a professional nature that marry the fields of mental health and equine services, utilizing the therapeutic triad (client-horse-therapist).
Equine Studies students at GU are equipped with clinical knowledge of therapeutic service, equine, and effective horse–human interaction management--in addition to basic horsemanship and equine care. Students graduate with hands-on experience in holistic care and managing the therapeutic alliances therein.
