A View of GU - March 2026

A LEGACY OF STORIES & 2026 ALUMNI AWARD NOMINATIONS

A View of GU – MARCH 2026

BY ROBYN (JAENKE) FLORIAN '88

“Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story.” – Psalm 107:2a

In the February issue of “A View of GU,” we considered the nutrient-rich soil story of all our stories—the truth found only in God’s Word—and the intent of Greenville University to offer a soil space in which our students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends are seen, known and inspired to contribute to the world in meaningful ways.

“Our story has always sought to reflect God’s story, one of faith in a God who sees us, of hope in a Son and Savior who knows and among a Church that values us, and of love flowing out from a Spirit who inspires us to influence and impact the Kingdom.”

During our spring GU Alumni Association board meeting, GUAA Vice President Amber (Featherston) Reynolds ’13 shared a word from Psalm 107 that had encouraged her and she offered it to the board to encourage us … “Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story” (vs. 2a).

Following up from last’s month consideration of “a people whose hearts are set on pilgrimage” (Psalm 84:5), we who have heeded God’s call to walk with Him through numerous and various valley and vista moments do so with the hope of arriving in places of new purpose and promise. And, for us, a “people” for whom many of our young adult journeys started in the soil of a Greenville College/University education, we want to honor your redemptive stories, whether through public proclamation at the Homecoming Honors Awards, chapel or via our online and print publications or through small group dialog around tables at the Homecoming Honors Banquet and other regional alumni events.

Your stories of God’s redemptive inspiration, influence and impact in your life through GU in turn serve to inspire, influence and impact everyone who hears them. This is how our ivy-linked network continues to grow and flourish from a Greenville University “education for character and service” for the world. We are so thankful for each opportunity God grants us to witness your flourishing contributions to your family, church, community and work as you extend the “calling” you engaged as students into vocational pursuits (what I like to refer to as your “voice-in-action” 😊).

2026 ALUMNI AWARDS NOMINATIONS

Our GU Alumni Awards provide one platform through which we can “let the redeemed tell their stories.” The awards provide an opportunity to highlight and honor God’s activity for, in, among and through the lives of those whose stories traversed the walls and hall, greens and gullies of Greenville University. And we love to tell this story in particular. 😊

This is where you come in … we invite you to nominate GU alumni for whom God has given you a first class seat to attest to the inspiration, influence and impact of a Greenville education in the world in which God placed that alumnus for a specific purpose. We want to hear these stories. Not only do your submissions contribute to the award nominations but they also cue us to new alumni legacy stories we may tell via other platforms (e.g. The RECORD, alumni stories online, social media, etc.). If God prompts you to share a story, we would love to hear it using a simple form available at: greenville.edu/alumni/alumni-awards/nomination-form.

With the addition of the inaugural Ruth (Smith) Winslow Leadership Award, presented to Ruth (Smith) Winslow ’62 at the 2025 Homecoming Honors Awards ceremony, GU now offers five award categories:

  • Distinguished Alumna Award
  • Outstanding Young Alumna Award
  • Robert A. Briner Salt & Light Award
  • Dr. Gene A. Kamp Loyalty Award
  • Ruth (Smith) Winslow Leadership Award

For more information on the GU Alumni Awards, review established criteria for each award, and nominate a GU alumnus for an award, please visit: greenville.edu/alumni/alumni-awards. We have extended the opportunity to submit award nominations through Friday, March 20.
