HOMECOMING 2025 & HOME COMING TO YOU

A View of GU – SEPTEMBER 2025

BY ROBYN (JAENKE '88) FLORIAN

My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest.” – Isaiah 32:18 NIV

In the August issue of “A View of GU,” I shared about my summer pilgrimage through numerous Free Methodist Annual Conference and Family Camp events, with the intent to encourage and connect with our GU alumni and friends as well as FMC leaders.

It was a sweet pilgrimage of sorts, which drew my mind to Psalm 84:5. My heart “was set on pilgrimage” to see you, and in many ways “your lives became the roads I traveled,” literally and figuratively. 🧑

I closed with exciting news … GU relaunching alumni travel in partnership with the Tidball family travel legacy with a May 2026 trip to Greece. Learn more at: greenville.edu/alumni/alumni-travel/gu-in-greece-2026, download GU in Greece – 4-Page Full Brochure (PDF with Registration Application), and watch the video recording of the first information sessions. For more information, contact Todd & Sue Tidball via cell (360-509-2890) or email (toddtidball@comcast.net).

Such a blessing to set the table for reconnection, renewal and revival amongst our alumni. The powerful sense of home many of us experienced during our years as a student continues in, among and through our alumni throughout the world. You form a vital, interconnected “net that works” (J.D Walt).

At Homecoming & Family Weekend, October 23–26, we will provide you with an opportunity to sink back into the soil of the GU community with opportunities that nourish the roots for the sake of flourishing fruitful lives. “REMEMBER that You Are Ivy” will feature activities for reunion classes of 1975 (50 Years), 1985 (40 Years), 2000 (25 Years) and 2015 (10 Years), along with Wilson T. Hogue, Young Alumni (Classes of 2021–25) and a special invitation to COVID-impacted reunion classes of 1970 (55 Years) and 1995 (30 years).

πŸ‘Ÿ YOUR NEXT STEPS: REGISTER TODAY (or by October 15) for Homecoming & Family Weekend 2025, “Remember that You Are Ivy,” October 23–26!

HOME COMING TO YOU

As I approach the one-year mark in this new role back at GU as director for Alumni Relations, I look back on all the opportunities to bring home to you all—locally, regionally and nationally. To many members of our Alumni Board and Alumni Ambassadors, thank you for all the ways you have engaged new events, old traditions and a few untraditional engagement activities πŸ˜‡, online and in person across the nation.

This weekend will locate me in alumni-rich cities of McPherson and Wichita, KS, for two “Panthers Pop-Up” events at area parks. I will also stop in Kansas City to plan our first GU in KC – Christmas 2025, Saturday, December 13! πŸŽ„ (KC-area alumni, stay tuned for more details!) In between gatherings, I will meet with leadership and alumni relations staff at Friends University and Central Christian College.

For 2026, we look to show up in Dallas, Seattle and DC, as well as some potential “Paws in the Park” worship nights in our region. As always, stay tuned to this monthly “For The RECORD” enewsletter, GU Alumni Association on Facebook, and @GreenvilleUniversityAlumni on Instagram for campus news, alumni stories and upcoming events.

Until we meet again … keep praying. Keep watching. And keep thanking God with us for the good work He continues to do on campus in the lives of GU students, faculty and staff and in you, our GU alumni and friends. πŸ§‘🐾🌿
