There are many different opinions on if three-year degrees are beneficial to students.
No, Don't Enforce Three-Year Degrees
Do we have bigger things to be concerned about instead of debating over whether three-year degrees are better for students or not? What we may think about is the fact that some college students are not graduating in four years or more (the usual and most common time frame). A three-year program will minimize the program requirements for obtaining a degree, which will in turn cause students to miss out on some of the general education requirements that are prominent now. Studying at a liberal arts institute allows a student to explore many topics in their time at college, and many of these come from general education courses. When we take these out, we cut off the usual ways of college life and minimize our knowledge in these areas. The information that's gathered from general education courses are not only beneficial to students while they are in college, but also when they're job searching. Many employers desire some of the tactics that are gathered from these particular classes.
Yes, Sign Me Up for this Degree
Earning a three-year degree could cut back the highly dreaded worry: college costs. It is true that finishing earlier is better for money spending reasons. College is expensive, and we should always look for various routes to take in cutting down these prices. Some students also have the opportunity to complete college courses while they're still in high school, so what about them? They should always have the chance to finish the three-year degree because of what they accomplished in high school. We'll continuously learn in our major courses, so why are general education courses even important?
Now, you get to decide. Is a three-year degree a good thing or a bad thing?
