Why I Chose Greenville University

College. It's a word that has the power to scare someone senseless or excite them so much that they start jumping up and down. For me, it was both. I had many people asking me where I would go to pursue my education after high school, and for the

Greenville University stood out to me for three reasons:

Worship Arts- I knew I wanted to pursue something related to the arts. I've loved writing, acting in plays, singing, taking photographs, and drawing for a very long time. I was never the sciency-kid who could do math equations in a heartbeat. When it came to the arts, however, my heart was happy and satisfied. After I was spiritually saved at seventeen years old, I felt a leading towards ministry (more specifically, music ministry). GU provided what God had planned for me, and it quickly became my dream school.

Growing My Faith- I wanted to be more motivated in every aspect of my relationship with God. I knew that at that moment, I needed nothing more than Jesus. GU has been excellent in helping me grow closer to God through chapel, Vespers, dorm Bible studies, spiritual discipline, classroom prayer, and integrating faith into all activities.

Christ-Centered Education -Being in my public high school taught me that my heart needed an education centered around Jesus. GU has also taught me a lot about mercy through my teachers who have given me grace upon grace in my assignments. My classes can be difficult, but my professors know just how to challenge and inspire me and how to recognize when I could use a little extra help. When that time comes, I've seen God's grace handed out freely like the gift it is. I am taught to be less hard on myself and more abundant in freedom and joy (yes, it is possible to do this even while living the crazy college life). It's all possible because of Jesus, and Greenville teaches me exactly that.

So far, I have attended GU for almost two semesters. I have added another major to my major declaration list: English. Along with being attached to music, I am also a writer. One day I'll be an author and an even better musician. I am very excited for the day I graduate GU with my Worship Arts and English degree. When people ask me how my college experience went, I can say to them boldly that I do not regret choosing Greenville University and a Christ-Centered education.
