GREENVILLE, Ill. - The 2004 edition of the Greenville College women's soccer team has returned to campus to continue the tradition of Panther soccer. Nine starters return from the 2003 team, while seven first-year players are a welcome addition to the squad. Among Greenville's losses from the 2003 season are senior goalkeeper Courtney Bruce (Noblesville, Ind.) and midfielder Janet Tomasek (Peoria, Ariz., HS). Returning first team all-conference sweeper Jackie Tomasek (Peoria, Ariz., HS) will look to anchor the defense. Returning junior NCCAA all-American Amanda Trempert (Redlands East Valley, Calif., HS) will again be counted on for leading the charge in the Panther attack. Last season, Trempert tallied 19 goals in 19 games and added six assists. Trempert was also a first team all-conference and first team NCCAA North Central all-region performer. Sophomore all-conference selection Victoria Sievert (Francis Howell North, Mo., HS) will also be a major contributor along with senior captain Jade Griggs (Peoria, Ill., Christian HS) in the midfield for the Panthers.Greenville brings in a solid recruiting class of seven new freshmen from across the country that complements the squad's previous classes of talented newcomers. Freshman midfielder Jeanna Bosacki (De Pere, Wis., HS) and transfer forward Natalie Lappe (Greenville, Ill., HS) will look to provide immediate support for Trempert in the attack.Head Coach Brian McMahon returns for his third season as the second head coach in the program's 10-year history. The Mansfield, Ohio, native served as an assistant coach during the 2001 season and took over the reigns as head coach of the women's program in 2002. The 2004 season will mark McMahon's 12th year of coaching soccer. McMahon played at Indiana Wesleyan University for four years, receiving national honors with the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) as a sweeper. In his collegiate career, McMahon was named to the NCCAA all-Midwest region second team and was an all-conference performer in the Mid-Central Conference. He competed in the NCCAA national tournament for two years and participated in the NAIA regional tournament during the other two seasons. McMahon also played overseas for Athletes in Action in England, Ireland, and North Ireland.Taking into account the return of nine starters from the 2003 squad, the Panthers should again be contenders for the SLIAC conference championship.
