2005 Women's Soccer Preview

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The 2005 edition of the Greenville College women's soccer team has returned to campus to continue the tradition of Panther soccer. Eight starters return from the 2004 team, while seven first-year players are a welcome addition to the squad. Among Greenville's losses from the 2004 season are senior defender Jackie Tomasek (Peoria, Ariz., HS) and midfielder Jade Griggs (Peoria, Ill., Christian HS).Returning NCCAA all-American Amanda Trempert (Redlands East Valley, Calif., HS) will again be counted on for leading the charge in the Panther attack. Last season, Trempert tallied 13 goals in 19 games and added six assists. Trempert was also a first team all-conference and first team NCCAA north central all-region performer.Returning all-conference junior sweeper Victoria Sievert (Francis Howell North, Mo., HS) will look to anchor the defense. Sophomore captain Natalie Lappe (Greenville, Ill., HS) will also be a major contributor in the midfield for the Panthers.Greenville brings in a solid recruiting class of seven new freshmen from across the country that complements the squad's previous classes of talented newcomers. Freshmen midfielder Tiffany Sanders (Greenville, Ill., HS), defender Keely Scott (Normal, Ill., University HS) and forward Janie Hayward (St. Louis, Mo., Brentwood HS) will look to provide immediate support for Trempert in the attack.Brian McMahon is in his fifth year as head men's soccer coach and fourth year as head women's soccer coach at Greenville College. Now in his 13th year of coaching soccer, McMahon has coached in the club, high school, and collegiate settings.As a player, McMahon competed at Indiana Wesleyan University where he received NCCAA national honors. He also played overseas in England, Ireland, and North Ireland.McMahon graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University in 1998 with a bachelor of science degree in psychology. Following graduation, McMahon earned his certified chemical dependency counselor (CCDC) license while counseling juvenile delinquents in a treatment facility. In 2002, he completed a master's degree in sports psychology at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.In addition to his coaching responsibilities, McMahon is the SLIAC men's soccer chair and serves on the NCAA and NSCAA central region ranking committees.Taking into account the return of eight starters from the 2004 squad, the Panthers should again be contenders for the SLIAC conference championship.
