Published: April 13, 2021

Dr. Bradley S. Shaw has been appointed to the position of Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences. He will assume his new responsibilities in August.

A Greenville College alumnus who graduated summa cum laude and received the President's Citation, Shaw returned to Greenville College in 1991 after completing his graduate education in American Literature at the University of Illinois. He has served as English Department Chair, General Education Director, and Honors Program Director. He chaired the General Education Council for a five-year period during which the current general education curriculum was drafted and implemented. He has served as the COR 101 Director and COR 401 Director. He has been on most faculty standing committees and chaired the Faculty Council when it was in existence.

"I'm excited about the opportunity that I'll have as Dean of Arts & Sciences to help develop a core strength of GC," said Shaw. "Our history of transforming students through their engagement with the liberal arts is what put GC on the map, and continuing to improve the high quality of these arts & science programs is GC's route to the future."

Shaw's achievements have been recognized well beyond the Greenville College community. He has twice been named a Fulbright Scholar. He has lectured throughout Europe and presented at Cambridge University. He currently serves as the Humanities Editor for the journal Christian Scholar's Review and is editing a special edition on "Faith and Film." He has lectured dozens of times at conferences and other colleges and universities and has a solid publication record.

"A dean must be transparent, epistemologically humble, and committed to the transformative mission of a Christian college," stated Shaw in his application materials. He described the role of faculty at a Christian college, saying that professors "don't simply deliver scholarly expertise - rather, we live out Christ's mandate of love in a variety of ways to help build God's beautiful kingdom."

"Brad's record of achievement, faith, commitment to service, and vision for Greenville College promise great things for the College as he moves in this role," said Provost Randy Bergen.
