Baseball Clinches Berth in SLIAC Tournament

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The Greenville baseball team defeated Fontbonne in both games of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon to clinch a berth in the SLIAC tournament. With the 8-2 and 7-6 wins, Greenville raised their overall record to 19-15, including a mark of 15-5 in SLIAC competition.The 15 conference wins ties the 2001 Panther squad for the single-season school record in SLIAC victories.The 2005 SLIAC tournament is slated for Gordon Moore Park in Alton, Ill., and Principia College in Elsah, Ill., on Friday and Saturday, May 13-14. Greenville will receive the No. 2 or No. 3 seed in the double-elimination tournament.On Friday, the No. 1 seed in the tournament will play the No. 4 seed at Gordon Moore Park, while the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds tangle at Principia. The winners meet in the second game at Gordon Moore Park on Friday, while the losers square off on Friday at Principia.Saturday's action will open at Gordon Moore Park with a game between the losers of Friday night's second games. The team that wins both games on Friday will face the winner of Saturday's first game.A final game, if necessary, will be held on Sunday, May 15, or Monday, May 16.Gordon Moore Park hosts both games on Saturday and the final game, if necessary, on Sunday or Monday.
