Bass Mollett Statement
Published: April 13, 2021
Over the past few months, we have discussed the status of the Bass Mollett property with various members of the Greenville community. All agree it represents an important part of the Greenville history and are anxious to find a viable future solution for its use.
Currently the board and administration of Greenville College are engaged in discussions regarding possible renovations and related costs. No answer has yet emerged to a rather complex set of property issues. Rough initial estimates to evaluate the structural and environmental status of the property are in the neighborhood of $50,000, with approximate renovation costs believed to be in the neighborhood of $1.5 million dollars. We expect these numbers to change as more information becomes available and hence we acknowledge that these numbers are still open for debate.
In this economic climate, the board and administration must take into account a number of variables. In a time of recession, it is important for Greenville College to display good stewardship by focusing on student needs and by keeping private higher education affordable. Despite the lack of financial resources needed for significant improvements to the Bass Mollett property, a series of cleanup days have improved the curb appeal and we will continue to maintain the "drive by" viewon Beaumont Ave. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to sustain the heritage as well as the buildings of Greenville College during these challenging times.
