Delivering Real Experience: Interterm in Guatemala

Published: April 13, 2021

On January 9th, 2011, eight Greenville College students and two Greenville College staff depart for Guatemala. For two weeks, this Greenville College group will assist Students International (SI) with their ongoing mission work in the communities of Magdalena, El Gorrin, and Antigua. The team will assist with agriculture, social work, education, media, and microfinance.

This is the second trip to Guatemala for team co-leader Dustin Fenton, Director of Leadership Development. Tim Ferret, Assistant Dean of Men's Residence Life, has made numerous short-term mission trips to Mexico, and is excited about traveling further south on this trip. While the trip was optional for credit, the students will be meeting for three days of class prior to leaving. Class time consists of an introduction to missions, an overview of the SI ministry in Guatemala, presentations on different topics pertaining to Guatemala by each student, and some basic language learning.

The outreaches are being facilitated to develop the community of Magdalena into an equipped and enabled people, ready to not only sustain themselves, but minister to others in need as well.

Please pray for the team as they serve the Lord with their gifts and talents over the next two weeks-for safe travel, health, and for the spiritual growth of both the students and people with whom they will share Christ's love every step of the way.
