Dr. Linamen to Finish Greenville College Presidency This Summer

Published: April 13, 2021

Greenville College President Dr. Larry Linamen plans to step down at the end of the current academic year to pursue other career interests. An interim president will be announced in the coming weeks.

While Linamen served his three year contract at Greenville College, his wife, Dr. Kayla Fisher, maintained a prominent career as a physician in Memphis, Tenn. "While we so enjoyed our connection with this community and its traditions, I feel it's time to pursue employment where we can enjoy life together," said Linamen.

To ensure a smooth transition, the board of trustees will appoint an interim president to begin the new academic year. A search committee will be formed to select a new president.

During Linamen's tenure, the institution's financial viability has remained healthy despite increasing external pressures. Under his leadership, nearly every residence hall has been improved, and Joy Hall was completely renovated. The college also doubled the size of its main campus through property and land acquisitions. Dr. Linamen has enhanced the college's international presence with the creation of two new programs. The China Scholars Program brings Chinese faculty members to campus as guest scholars, and the Intensive English Language Program provides college-level English instruction for highly qualified Chinese students wanting to study in the United States. Most importantly, Linamen has remained committed to students and their spiritual well-being.

"The Board is most appreciative of Dr. Linamen's efforts contributing to the current and future success of our mission at Greenville College," said Beckie Smith, chair of the board of trustees.

Linamen is the eleventh president to serve at Greenville College since the school was established in 1892.
