Drum Roll Please: GC Introduces New Marching Band Program

Greenville College plans to start a marching band as part of a brand new initiative. The College community is excited about the new program that will provide additional opportunities to engage prospective students.
"We are starting new programs that will benefit and enrich the community," says Randy Bergen Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College . "The marching band will be contributing to an already great strength of the college, the football team."
Students will have the opportunity to play in pep band this fall as they prepare to begin marching in the fall of 2011.
Greenville College has selected Will Fairbanks as Director of the Bands. Fairbanks brings 13 years of experience as director of bands at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas where he has built a thriving and competitive marching band program.
"We want to do this right and serve our community well," says Bergen. "We've hired the right guy to make it happen. He brings tremendous qualities to the position and impressed all who interviewed him for the position with his depth of knowledge about how to grow a new program, how to achieve excellence, and how to recruit students. He has great creativity combined with strong faith, great energy, administrative skill, and recruiting experience."
Fairbanks serves as president of the Texas Community College Marching Band Directors Association . He holds a Master of Music degree from Stephen F. Austin State University , a Master of Divinity degree from Boston University , and a bachelor's degree in music education from West Texas State . Fairbanks has played trumpet in symphony orchestras and served as a minister in several United Methodist churches.
