The Medical Bioethics Conference 2010 slated for April 9-10 promises a fill of stimulating and compelling topics that intertwine the worlds of medicine, law, religion and philosophy. This conference, while having particular appeal to those interested in the medical, religion, and philosophy disciplines, will feature topics encountered by those in all walks of life, whether through personal experience or in the voting booth. Whether faced with end of life issues, pain and suffering dilemmas or questions of whether to lend support to a particular method of medical research, attendees will find invaluable training at this conference.

Most remember the Terry Schiavo case, which received much media coverage and became a topic of many dinner conversations. While many were quick to offer a view point; few were able to benefit from a meaningful review of the applicable legal and medical principles of the case. At this conference, we will examine the issues of the case and other bioethical questions through presentations by Dr. Christopher Hook, an internationally renowned bioethicist, along with fellow Greenville College alumni, Dr. Robert Cranston and Dr. Aaron Cobb.

Topics such as genetic re-engineering, stem cell research, eugenics, or when human life ends, can be difficult and cause wrestling of the heart, soul, and intellect. Yet, despite the inherent challenges presented by such topics, it is imperative that institutions such as Greenville College be conduits of scholarly information and faith-based discussions in these areas. This conference provides teaching by Greenville College alumni who have focused their careers in the medical bioethical field. While most institutions of higher learning prefer to ignore or briefly touch on such topics, Greenville College has chosen to meet the need head on by devoting over eight hours of teaching on these topics.

The Medical Bioethics Conference 2010 will provide an opportunity for students, faculty, alumni, and area clinicians to learn the latest in the field of medical bioethics, all conveniently located on the Greenville College campus.
