GREENVILLE, Ill. - The summer is winding down, but the coaches and teams of Greenville College's six fall sports are gearing up for another season. After seeing the number of students in Greenville's 14 athletic programs skyrocket through increased recruiting efforts, the athletic department is excited to embark on another year.

Though classes begin August 25, teams will begin returning to Greenville on August 10 as the football team begins their preseason camp. The cross country, soccer, and volleyball teams return a week later.

Despite football's early start to camp, coach Brian McMahon and the men's soccer team , the defending St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season champions, will be the first to participate in an exhibition event as they host the alumni on Saturday, Aug. 21, at 5 p.m. in a game that is held during new student orientation. The volleyball team and coach Tom Ackerman will host their first action on Saturday, Aug. 28, at 9 a.m. when its varsity and junior varsity hosts four teams in exhibition matches.

Regular season play commences on Wednesday, Sept. 1, as soccer, cross country, and volleyball play their first events. The women's soccer team is the first as they host Lindenwood Belleville at 3 p.m. A men's soccer game will follow against Lindenwood Belleville at 5 p.m.

The cross country and volleyball teams will travel to Washington University in St. Louis on Sept. 1. Men's and women's cross country , both under the guidance of coach Brian Patton, compete in a dual meet against Washington University at 6 p.m., and the volleyball team will match up against defending NCAA Division III national champion Washington University at 7:30 p.m. The Lady Panther volleyball team plays their first home match on Tuesday, Sept. 7, against Benedictine at 7 p.m.

Football , under the direction of first year head coach Ordell Walker, is the last to begin their season as they will host Augustana in a game on Friday, Sept. 3, at Edwardsville High School's football field at 7 p.m. The game was originally scheduled to be played in Greenville, but delays in Greenville's field renovation have precipitated the change.
